First DNF in 2015 for Gino at Jerez

CIA Landlords Insurance Honda racer Gino Rea had got a good start and was in fourth place before Luca Mahais had a technical problem that forcing him off the track and back to ninth. He was up to eighth fighting back and closing the gap on the battle for fourth when he made a mistake and crashed out with nine laps to go.
Gino said: “I am very lucky to walk away from that crash unhurt. The race was a real shame becasue the team and I worked so hard to make things happen this weekend and I believe we had the pace to battle for a podium if not top 4 finish. I did what I had to do at the start and got into the top 4 but when Mahias had an engine problem infront of me, I had nowhere to go and hit him. Luckily I stayed on but I lost 5 positions. I was then pushing hard to catch the group in front of me and ran wide on the exit of the fastest corner on the track. Somehow I lowsided at around 190kph and at first I thought I was just going to slide it out but then I started tumbling.
"Luckily I didn't re-injure my foot. I had it x-rayed after the race and the 4th metatarsal still hasn't fulled healed (from Sepang Moto2 crash last year) but it hasn't been made worse, which is good. The plate is bent and rasied slightly off the bone though so I need an operation at the end of the season to remove both plates in the foot.
"It's a shame it went the way it did but that's racing and I'm just sorry for the team and all my supporters that came to watch. We will regroup and come back stronger at Magny Cours."
The 11th and penultimate round of the World Supersport Championship is at Magny Cours in France on Sunday, October 4th.
CIA Landlords Insurance Honda Team Manager Simon Buckmaster said: “You cannot make up Gino’s bad luck, Luca Mahais had a problem that put Gino back to ninth and he was closing the gap and still on for a good result when he crashed out at the fastest point of the track. Thankfully he is OK and will come back at Magny Cours and try again to add to his podium tally.”
