Donington WSBK Round 6: Best Result of 2017 for Gino Rea

Gino Rea made a brilliant start to his home round at Donington Park by finishing in 3rd position in the overall combined free practices on Friday to advance directly into Superpole 2. Rea went on to finish 5th in Saturdays wet morning session and qualified on the 3rd row of the grid for Sundays race.

Gino made his trademark 'Speedy G' start during Sundays re-started World Supersport race to move into 5th on the first lap, but a mistake with the rear tyre selection prevented him of expressing his potential and he was forced to settle for 12th.

Gino Rea #4 (WSS Race; 12th): “Overall it's been our most positive weekend since Australia. We have found a better solution to the chassis balance and set-up which has allowed me to ride more like myself. We finished Friday in 3rd which was our best Friday of the year by far. In the race I made a really good start and was up into 5th position, but I realised from the beginning that something didn't feel right. I was really struggling to stop the bike and open the gas early because of a lack of rear grip. I actually didn't know that the wrong tyre (harder compound) was in my bike but I could feel that something was different to the morning warm up. I wasn't able to lap as quick as everyone else with the softer tyre so unfortunately I couldn't do any more than 12th. It's a shame the mistake was made with the tyre but on a positive note, I am sure that if everyone had the same tyre as me or if I had the correct tyre, I would have been able to battle in the top 5, which is a big step forward from where we've been recently.”
