We are now over half way through our ‘summer break’ and I’m itching to get back out on my bike! I’ve been at the Elliott household in the countryside of Fermanagh, Northern Ireland, where last year myself and Josh (Elliott) spent the summer days ripping up his families fields on my Yamaha YZF450 motocross bike! I had my motocross bike out here to make the most of the weather and countryside fields, making tracks with Josh wherever we could. I then had the bike sent out to Almeria in Spain to use it for winter training, where it has remained since. I will soon have it sent from Spain to Italy to be near my World Supersport team’s base. I’m frequently asked how I get my bike around to so many places without actually driving there myself, so I wanted to let you in on my cost effective secret! This is also handy for other circumstances, such as buying a bike on eBay/ online. I hear of so many people who want to buy a bike online but cannot arrange a way of getting the it back to them.
A while back I came across a website called Shiply and I used them to get a collection of free quotes from a variety of different motorcycle transporters. You are given the option of different transport methods to get your motorcycle safely delivered to you. Its then as simple as selecting an option, supplying the pick-up address and date you want it collected… and wait for it to be delivered! Whichever option you chose, Shiply gives you the quickest and most cost effective options of getting your bike transported.

Open Trailer: The great thing about bikes is they can fit on most trailers giving you a wide variety of options when choosing transport companies. Just be aware that using this method means your beloved bike will be exposed to the elements during transport.
Closed Transport: Most man and van businesses can transport a motorcycle for you, as long as they have the right hardware (braces, straps, ties etc) in place to secure the bike while in transit. Specialist lorries can also transport motorbikes in bulk loads. This option can often be more expensive; however, it is most likely the safest one. This is my preferred option and the one I have always used.
Ridden Service: One way to have it delivered is to have someone ride it to you. This bespoke service is a lot less popular than the other two. The problem with this type of service is there is more chance of wear and tear on the bike. However, this is a great option if you need a motorbike moved urgently, but is likely to be much more expensive than other services.
Your choice will likely come down to what your budget will allow. Whatever way you wish to have your bike transported, I would recommend you to use delivery comparison websites, in specific, Shiply. Every time I have used them in the past to move my bike the whole process was quick and simple, so they get the thumbs up from me!
