Record crowd witness best weekend for OMG Racing

OMG Racing enjoyed their best result in the Bennetts British Superbike championship, heading into their World Superbike wildcard appearance at the end of May with all of the confidence they need.

Gino Rea impressed throughout the weekend, making progress with the bike set up and improving his track knowledge at the undulating Oulton Park circuit. Gino finished a session best of 11th during Free Practice 3 before heading into a scorching Qualifying. The ex GP podium finisher enjoyed a strong race under the Bank Holiday Monday heat, bringing the Suzuki home in 13th - just behind 12-time winner at Oulton Park, Ryuichi Kiyonari - and well within the points, setting a fastest lap that was just one second away from Leon Haslam.

Gino comments: “What a weekend! Oulton Park on a Superbike sure is a shock to the system after spending the majority of my career on 600s at World & European style circuits. However, once the team and I got dialled in, I really enjoyed it! The whole weekend was just a fantastic event, with record crowds and perfect weather, race weekends don't get much better than that and it was great to see so many fans out!”

“My pace at the start of race one was pretty good and I was up to 11th at one point; keeping tight to the back of the big group. I struggled to keep the pace up, but once Ryuichi Kiyonari passed me I did my best to hold onto him until the finish who I believe has won the most BSB races ever at Oulton.”

“We tried to improve for the second race and had some good pace to pick up more points. I struggled in a couple of areas though and unfortunately had my first front end crash on our beloved OMG Racing Suzuki! In spite of the crash, I’m confident that we can continue the steady progress that we are making, and I’m excited about our next race at Donington Park in the World Superbike series.”
