"The first time on the Moto2 bike at Valencia was so cool. At first, the bike felt very alien and a few things needed adjusting for my riding position. It was also my first time back at the circuit in a year and a half and it had also been over a month since I'd last rode, so that didn't help either. But it didn't take long. After a few sessions, I started to feel at home on the bike and my confidence rose.
"We improved all day and I adapted my style to suit the bike and also the bike to suit my riding. We tried many different settings including both 2011 Moriwaki chassis, different clutch settings and engine-brake settings, different positioning on the bike etc. I done some good lap times and ended up 3rd position! The team were happy, especially with the amount of feedback I was able to give them.
"The second day at Valencia was wet and as the track became damp and greasy at the end, we went out on circuit and recorded the fastest lap of the day. It didn't mean much because it was wet and some riders didn't go out, but it was still nice to be quickest. More importantly, I learnt the bike and tyres in the wet and we improved the bike.
"The third day was really good for us. It was damp to start but eventually dried. We made more progress with the set up of the bike and I recorded the fastest lap of the day, 1 second faster than my best from day one. An hour before the end, the rain came down and stopped play. We left the final day of the Official Moto2 test as the fastest! An awesome feeling and the team were very happy.
"We then had another fantastic opportunity to test with the Gresini Team again at Jerez. Again, we developed the bike and tested many different parts over the 3 days to see which direction Moriwaki need to work in to create a better chassis for 2012. I gave as much accurate feedback I could on the different parts and the Moriwaki guys left very happy. Our pace was also very good, we finished inside the top 3 again against all the Moto2 regulars who were using their 2012 bikes, while we were using the 2011 chassis."
More to come soon.
